The first Dewsbury Arts Group Youth Drama classes were established over twenty years ago. Classes for young people are run on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings at the Group’s Lower Peel Street premises. The aim is to give the members experience of drama exercises, movement, and improvisation together with an introduction to scripted work.

Enrolment for the classes is open to anyone from the age of 11. Classes for new youth members are run on Saturday mornings beginning in September each year with breaks for Christmasand Easter. The classes culminate with an evening of productions in April. All
youth members who wish will have the opportunity to “take to the stage”, and there are many opportunities for youth members to be involved in the Arts Group’s major productions.

During the season occasional workshops from visiting drama professionals are organised. Recently these have included workshops on Circus Arts, Mask making and, of course, acting skills.
